"Very helpful coaching meeting| I'm so glad this depression recovery group service exists... I've attended two meetings, had two coaching sessions, and availed myself of the online resources. I've already put in place daily practices that are helping me and am dealing with deeper issues at the root of my problem in the coaching sessions. This service would be a wonderful adjunct service to any medical practice, church, college, work place, military post or other type of group that truly cares about people and is serious about getting them help in a confidential, cost-effective manner.
This image of a broken cup or bowl filled in with gold, and the message that goes with it, speaks eloquently to those who can feel so damaged and broken while experiencing a period of greatly 'lowered feelings.' In so many ways, the cup with the gold has more design character and is certainly stronger in the broken places than it ever was before...
Diet for Depression
Research from the past several years suggests that consumption of monounsaturated fatty acids (found in olive oil, avocados, and nuts), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs; found in nuts, seeds, fish, and leafy green vegetables), and supplements containing eicosapentaenoic acid decreases depression risk over time. To that end, adhering to Mediterranean dietary patterns specifically -- that is, a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, and fish and high in unsaturated fat -- is associated with a 30% reduction in depression risk, compared with meat- and dairy-heavy diets and diets high in trans-fatty acids; intake of the latter is associated with an increased depression risk over time. Conversely, low levels of PUFAs may increase the risk of developing postpartum depression, according to a 2012 literature review published in the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry. Keep in mind, however, that although there is strong evidence of an association between diet and depression, most studies to date have not proven causality, supporting the need for large, randomized primary prevention trials.
