These two weeks the children learnt about the different festivals such as Lunar New Year, Christmas. They also learnt about the different races as well as their culture's food in Singapore.
For Phonics, they children started to learn about word families- 'ch' and 'sh'. They were introduced to words starting with these sounds.
Phonics lesson
For English, positional language- left, right, in front, behind, between, above and under have been introduced to the children. Reader 1- The Birthday Cake has been read to the children and they were able to talk about their best birthday party and the party games that they played with their friends.
We briefly discussed about the different cultures and customs of each the countries mentioned. The children were delighted to be able to identify and play with the finger puppets that represented the country that they came from. Through the finger puppets play session, they were introduced to the various costumes and languages of friends from different countries.
We had just completed week three and four of our learning journey and the children had a great time learning and playing together. The sub-theme for week three is "All about Friendship" and for week four is "Friends around the World".
We had a discussion about the importance of having friends, the meaning of friendship and the qualities of a good friend. They were also able to identify that friends can come from different countries and cultures. Each of the children bravely stood in front of their friends and talk about where they and their family were from.
For craft, the children showed their creativity by working in a group to draw a giant birthday cake and decided among themselves which ingredients to add into the giant cake. They also created a Crown of Friends craft where they get to design the hairstyles and clothing for their 'friends' in the crown.
