One of the greatest film critic Roger Ebert was an alcoholic - he took his last drink on Aug 1979.
Roger wrote freely about his alcoholism and recovery in 2009,
“My name is Roger, and I’m an alcoholic.” after being sober for 30 years.
Ebert succumbed to cancer last week.

CHANGE AND UNCERTAINTY - Speech
Mr. President, there are always new dangers to be faced, new battles to be fought.
We are at war against drugs:
— against those who produce drugs
— against those who peddle drugs
— against those who launder the profits of the drug trade.
Drugs stunt young lives, they break up families, they injure babies before they are even born.

Women's History Month
Dr. Volkow’s work has been instrumental in demonstrating that drug addiction is a disease of the human brain. As a research psychiatrist and scientist, Dr. Volkow pioneered the use of brain imaging to investigate the toxic effects and addictive properties of abusable drugs. Her studies have documented changes in the dopamine system affecting, among others, the functions of frontal brain regions involved with motivation, drive, and pleasure in addiction. She has also made important contributions to the neurobiology of obesity, ADHD, and aging.

Over the past 25 years, Dr. Amaro’s work has focused on improving the connections between public health research and public health practice. Her research has resulted in over 100 scientific publications. Her work has focused on epidemiological and community-based studies of alcohol and drug use among adolescents and adults; the development and testing of behavioral interventions for HIV/AIDS prevention; substance abuse and mental health treatment for Latina and African American women and incarcerated men; alcohol and drug use among college populations, and behavioral interventions for HIV medications adherence.

Former First Lady Betty Ford's name and legacy will forever be linked with her namesake center for substance abuse and addiction, but her contributions to helping overcome the stigma of cancer are just as significant and predated some of her other positive impacts on American society, which also included the Equal Rights Amendment and abortion rights.

The mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size. ― Albert Einstein
Albert Einstein said that he would choose the latter regarding miracles. When you really think about it, miracles are happening everywhere. It's our definition of a miracle that is wrong.
We tend to look for some sort of huge big gigantic event we completely miss ourselves. And we as humans are the greatest miracles. Our personalities, our behavior, isn't that miracle enough?
We are made of cells, so what? Despite being made of "just cells" which are amazing in their own right we can have preference, we can create, we can love. Isn't that a miracle?
Maybe miracles weren't supposed to dazzle the world, maybe they were just meant to add to it. Because seeing the sun at dawn should be miracle enough.
